Here’s a detailed look at what makes the Grandtan X electric fat tire trike stand out.
Addmotor Grandtan X E-Trike: Built for Comfort and Adventure
One of the standout features of the Grandtan X is its full suspension system, which greatly enhances ride quality. With both rear springs and front shocks, this adult trike effortlessly absorbs bumps and uneven terrain, ensuring comfort whether cruising city streets or navigating rough forest trails. The Grandtan X also boasts a 750W*48V rear-drive motor, which provides ample power for climbing hills and tackling steep inclines. The rear-drive mechanism incorporates a rear differential speed, allowing the wheels to turn independently and navigate corners smoothly.
Grandtan X Design Concept | Why Dual Suspension Matters on an E-Trike
|
---|
Dual shocks, or full suspension systems, refer to an e-bike or e-trike setup that includes both a front suspension fork and a rear shock absorber. Together, these components work to absorb impact from rough terrain, potholes, or uneven surfaces, dramatically improving ride comfort and control. On Addmotor Grandtan X, the dual suspension system is designed to keep both the rider and the trike stable—even on bumpy paths or off-road trails. The front fork absorbs shocks from the front wheel, softening the impact before it reaches your arms and shoulders. At the same time, the rear suspension cushions the back of the trike, reducing jarring movements that would otherwise affect your lower back. |
The Grandtan X excels on gravel, dirt roads, and inclines. While its 4-inch fat tires provide excellent traction, riders need to be mindful of the low clearance of the derailleur chain. With only about 2.5–3 inches of clearance, it’s important to avoid rocks and obstacles to prevent damage.
During testing, the Grandtan X proved its strength by effortlessly climbing hills and handling steep, rocky terrain. Even when a gear shift was required on steeper slopes, the e-trike’s torque and pedal assist features ensure smooth operation. For long rides or hilly routes, its seven gears and seven pedal-assist levels provide flexibility and control.
Features That Enhance the Riding Experience
The Grandtan X full suspension is packed with user-friendly features that make it both practical and enjoyable:
- Parking Brake: A convenient safety feature for securing the electric tricycle on slopes or uneven surfaces.
- Throttle and Kill Switch (Cut-Off Switch): The throttle provides a boost when needed, while the kill switch automatically deactivates the motor when the brakes are engaged.
- Lights and Turn Signals: Integrated headlights, taillights, turn signals, and emergency flashers improve visibility and safety in various conditions.
- Digital Display: The display panel offers clear information on speed, battery life, and other metrics, helping riders stay informed during their journey.
- Cargo Area: The spacious rear storage area is perfect for carrying essentials, whether groceries or outdoor gear.
Assembly and Build Quality
Upon arrival, the Grandtan X was nearly fully assembled. Setting up the handlebars and other small components was straightforward, and the provided tools made the process easier. The e-trike’s sturdy construction, including its aircraft-grade aluminum frame, supports heavy loads with ease.Key Benefits of Dual Suspension on an Electric Trike | Addmotor Tips |
● Smoother Ride: Dual shocks absorb bumps and vibrations, making long rides more comfortable and less fatiguing. ● Better Traction: By keeping all three wheels more firmly in contact with the ground, suspension systems help maintain grip and stability. ● Improved Handling: Suspension allows the e-trike to respond more fluidly to turns and changes in terrain, giving you more confidence and control. ● Enhanced Safety: By reducing the impact of sudden jolts or obstacles, dual shocks help maintain balance and reduce the risk of tipping or losing control—especially important on a powerful e-trike like the Grandtan X. ● Passenger Comfort: If you're carrying cargo or a passenger (when riding a passenger electric tricycle), rear shocks are especially valuable in smoothing out the ride in the back. |

Mike's Original Review on Grandtan X
Well, me and Pearl are out today with a brand-new ride from Addmotor that they sent to me—this is the Grandtan X. The features I really want to show on this one are the fact that it has full suspension to make the ride smoother up here, and it’s got a 750W 48V rear-drive motor. The rear drive is going to be really handy for climbing hills. Underneath the bed, here’s the motor and here’s a differential, which allows for making good corners. One wheel will stop and the other will drive, so it doesn’t check or lag going around a corner. Here’s the chain hanging down on the derailleur, and the thing you’ll have to be aware of on this is that there’s only about 3 inches or 2.5 inches of clearance. So if it’s a rocky road, you want to make sure that you drive with a rock on this side of the front wheel so you don’t take a chance of hitting your derailleur and damaging that.
I’m going to try and bring Pearl with me down the road—it might be a little too bumpy for her. What we’re going to do is just explore the country up here in the forest and maybe look for a place to hunt huckleberries a little bit later. But I just want to do a test to see how it performs on gravel dirt roads and its overall performance.
Before we take off, I want to show how it came in the box in the yard and how we put it together. It was really easy to put together, but I’ll show that now and then we’ll hit the road.
This is a pretty heavy bike—it’s hard to lift. So what I think I’m going to have to do is just cut the box open and roll it out backwards. I think I’m going to take parts of this off. Here’s the front tire, and I’ll mount the handlebars inside the box and then I’ll just try and roll it out, get rid of some of this packaging. It’s almost all assembled already; it just needs a few things put on. Inside this carrying bag are tools and the basket, and I believe that’s the front pin. So I’m going to go ahead and tighten on this handlebar now.
To get the battery on and off, you can’t just take it off without the key. It just slides off. These are really good batteries. I’m going to get this charged up so we can test it out as soon as possible. The battery has this little button here, and you push that on until the lights come on. Then you push this button right here and hold it down until those lights come on—now you’re ready to go. It’s in pedal assist one right now.

What I really like about the three wheels is I don’t need to balance the bike. I can go slow enough to enjoy the peaceful ride and the beautiful scenery.
I got some pretty rough roads to go on, so I’m going to put Pearl in the truck now. I think she had fun—did you have fun, Pearl? Anyway, I don’t want her to be on too rough of roads.
It’s a pretty steep hill here [check 00:11:02]. Pearl and the camera crew aren’t too far behind me—we’re all going to meet up down at the berry patch. There are some huckleberries! There’s a nice one—they’re ripe. She’s getting my berries—those are mine! She ate my berries, big one.
It’s quite a steep hill, really. It’s got plenty of torque—that was a pretty good little hill there, and it just came right up it no problem. This is steep and rocky. I had to actually shift gears on that one—it’s still just a little too steep.
Well, it’s quite a machine—I’ll say that. What my favorite feature is is the rear-drive motor: 48V, 750W. It’s got plenty of power to do everything I need to do. It has really nice fat tires on it. It has a really good parking brake here—you just pull back, push this button down like that, and it’s not going anywhere. So if you get on a slope or something like that, you can put that parking brake on, and then you can get off without rolling away.
It has every other feature, like the bell and the horn. It has turn signals—for instance, here’s your left signal, and then it indicates right here. Just push it again to get it to come off, and if you want your right one on, if you need to put your emergency flashers on, you just hold both of these down and that’ll indicate both here and there that they’re on. Do the same thing—just push it again to take them off. Okay, there are headlights, and then there are taillights too. It has seven different pedal assists on it, and it also has seven different gears. I don’t use those unless I need them. If I’m climbing a really steep hill, then I gear down. Otherwise, I just kept putting more pedal assist to it and pedaling, and it took most of the hills just fine. There were a couple of them that I needed to gear down a little bit.
It has a throttle here and a kill switch here, but as soon as you engage the brakes, the motor is deactivated. The other super nice feature for this is the rear springs—it causes the back end to be able to maneuver with the bumps, and it keeps the front pretty stable, pretty upright. Then the front shocks just take all of the bounce out of it. I never once felt like I was going to tip over or anything like that. I didn’t go super fast either, but I really like the cargo area here—you could put all kinds of stuff in there.
I’m happy with it. It climbed these hills really well, it took the bumps on the road really well, and I never had a problem with it. I really appreciate Addmotor sending me the Grandtan X. Riding it makes me feel like a kid again.
